LYMErix, the only Lyme Disease vaccine, was pulled from the market in February 2002.  The manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, claimed that there was not enough demand to justify the continued manufacture and marketing of the vaccine.

 1989 OspA (an outer surface protein) found and cloned
 early 1990s OspA antibodies found in many patients with chronic Lyme disease
 1990-92 Vaccinations with rOspA found to protect mice against Lyme disease infections
 1992-95 Vaccinations with rOspA tested in other animals
 1995 Lyme vaccine found safe and effective in persons with Lyme disease
 1995-98 Vaccine found safe and effective in people without Lyme disease
 1998 FDA approved Lyme vaccine
 2002 Manufacturer pulls vaccine from the market
